Meeting Minutes August 24, 2024

The meeting was called to order at 11:03 AM by President Mikey Wiseman on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Present were President, Mikey Wiseman; 1st Vice President / Membership chair, Cassandra Jessie; 2nd Vice President, Shelley Sawyer; Recording Secretary, Elizabeth Bowden; Treasurer, Mark Lear; and Immediate Past President, Sheila Young.  Miami Beach members present were President, Anthony Corona;  2nd vice President, David New; Gabriel Lopez Kafati, and Leah Gardner.  

After lengthy discussion of issues, dialogue ensued from representatives of Florida Council of the Blind and the Miami Beach chapter,  It was agreed upon that the leaders of the Miami Beach Council of the Blind will have continued dialogue with their members, and there is a possibility that a vote may be taken to rescind the disaffiliation process.  It was agreed by both parties that should a vote to rescind disaffiliation occur the Executive committee will respect that vote and present an option to the voting body of the Florida Council of the Blind at its’ next board meeting to be held virtually in October 2024.  The purpose of this being to obtain direction from the membership to either continue with or recent disaffiliation of the Miami Beach chapter or to withdraw disaffiliation proceedings.  The recording of this meeting will be provided to Miami Beach representatives to be used during their next scheduled meeting.  The Liaison officer will also attend the meeting either virtually or in person.   

The meeting ended at 12:41 PM.
