THE FCB PRE-CONVENTION MEETING


MAY 18th, 2007
TALLAHASSEE, FL


President Debbie Grubb called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM. With 19 chapters and all officers present a quorum was established.

The first order of business was to officially seat a new chapter from the Ft. Myers area. The new chapter will be called the Southwest Council of the Blind. We welcomed their Board representative, Paul Spencer.

It was then noted that although the official Awards ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, the Legislative Award was presented earlier today to Rep. Dennis Baxley.

Paul Edwards made a motion to delay the reading of the Treasurer’s report until the membership meeting on Sunday. The motion was seconded by Jim Warth and carried.

We next heard about the legislative seminar today and the town meeting scheduled for tomorrow. The issue of the voting machines that have a verifiable, paper readout and making them accessible to blind voters was discussed. Paul Edwards talked about joining with the Florida Voters Coalition group.

Spencer Morton from the Alachua Chapter told us about his working with Wal-mart to make the point of sales machines accessible. He said that within 18 months all of these machines are supposed to be accessible.

Sila Miller, Convention Registrar, said that some lost and found items had been turned in to the registration office.

Linda Jacobson, Membership Secretary, talked about voting at our membership meeting on Sunday. Each chapter has a designated seating area. She said that there would be volunteers to help each delegate to find their area.

Linda talked about the raffle tickets. She will be in the registration room to accept tickets and chapter checks after 10 AM tomorrow.

Nancy Burgess-Hall talked about the Friends of the Library. They are holding a raffle of their own. They will be raffling off three descriptive videos. See her for those raffle tickets.
