MID-FLORIDA COUNCIL OF THE BLIND
Mid-Florida Council of the Blind (MFCB) is the
Orlando area chapter of the Florida Council of the Blind (FCB), an organization that is itself an affiliate of
the American Council of the Blind (ACB). ACB is the nation's leading membership organization of blind
and visually-impaired people. It was founded in 1961 and incorporated in the District of Columbia.
The Council strives to improve the well-being of all blind and visually-impaired people by: serving as a representative national
organization of blind people; elevating the social, economic and cultural levels of blind people; cooperating with the public and private
institutions and organizations concerned with blind services; encouraging and assisting all blind persons to develop their abilities and
conducting a public education program to promote greater understanding of blindness and the capabilities of blind people.
MFCB has its By-Laws available for review. We are very proud of this accomplishment. So please continue to check out information
on this website, especially our MFCB Newsletter.

In addition, the $12.00 membership helps in holding activities for members locally and in attending seasonal conventions with
FCB.
MEETINGS
Mid-Florida Council of the Blind holds General Meetings usually on the first Saturday of the month at 12:00 PM. These meetings are in the
Meeting Room at Booth Towers, which is located on 633 Lake Dot Circle, just off of Colonial Drive in downtown Orlando. Guest speakers
are usually scheduled for every meeting. Refreshments are served during the meeting and door prizes are usually given out as well.
During the months of March and September, there is the possibility of those General Meetings taking place on the second Saturday of the
month. This is due to the fact that many MFCB Members participate in annual fundraisers during the first Saturday in March and Labor Day
Weekend falling on the first Saturday in September. MFCB Meetings are not held in July as the organization takes a break for the
summer.
It is encouraged that as many members as possible attend these meetings in order to participate in discussions and to have an idea as
to what MFCB is doing and what it wants to do for the local blind and visually-impaired community.
Also, MFCB usually holds Annual Luncheons in June for presenting local awards, including the Connie Rotter Memorial Scholarship for a
deserving student going to college in Central Florida, and in December to celebrate the holidays.
